Jyoti Chitraban celebrates 107 years of Indian Cinema with the completion of the color restoration of the existing remaining footages of the first Indian Film.
India's first full-length feature film ' Raja Harishchandra ' was released today in 1913 (03/05/1913). Directed and produced by Dadasaheb Phalke, the "father of Indian Cinema", this 40-minute-long silent film is the very first full-length Indian feature — the beginning of Bollywood. It was screened for the public at Coronation Cinema in Girgaon, Mumbai. The film was based on the legend of Raja Harishchandra with an all-male cast.
Unfortunately, Raja Harishchandra only exists now in fragments (1475 feet of it i.e. around 11 minutes and 19 seconds).
